The Dhaka Transport Coordinating Authority was established on 22 September 2012 to formulate strategic transport plans and to regularly monitor and coordinate for possible planning for development of transport infrastructure between Dhaka city and adjoining districts. DTCA was introduced in 1999 (the name of Dhaka Transport Coordination Board was amended) to meet the DUTP project consultation requirements.
Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, Gazipur City Corporation and Narayanganj City Corporation including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manakganj, Gazipur and Narsingdi districts covering an area of 7400 sq km are affiliated to DTCA. To manage these areas, DTCA follows its own law, the Dhaka Transport Coordinating Authority Act, 2012.
